BRUNCH CLUB

The Brunch Club is well-known restaurant which is a favourite weekend haunt for locals and mid-levels residents. The Brunch Club looks like a brunch spot should. The walls are covered with a whopping array of magazines. The soft white sofas along with an open back patio make for an extremely relaxing atmosphere.

Surprisingly, the Brunch Club is actually open until midnight, serving (gasp!) food other than brunch; however, late morning is the best time to go. The combination of the restaurant's fresh-squeezed orange juice, omelets and eggs benedict cures hangovers from the night before. The eggs benedict is one of the best in town. You can also get non-traditional  eggs benedict with salmon or with chorizo, onion and mushroom. The French toast, the sweet or savory crepes and the scrambled eggs on brioche bread are also top picks. The scrambled eggs are so fluffy you wonder what magic they worked in the kitchen to give them that consistency. Non-brunch options include soups, salads and desserts as well as main courses and sandwiches.

The only drawback of the Brunch Club is its size. In terms of its popularity, the restaurant is small, and on weekends diners will inevitably have to wait for a table. This also has to do with the fact that once people sit down they do not want to leave. (You can easily spend all day there, reading magazines and drinking coffee.) The staff remains friendly and accommodating, even if huge a crowd forms outside while waiting for a table.

The Brunch Club is all about unwinding. Go to this neighbourhood hangout with a smile, and if you don’t want to wait around for a table, remember to make a reservation beforehand. The Brunch Club is located on the upper part of Peel Street around the corner from Elgin Street.

There's also a fabulous new Brunch Club on 18 Leighton Road in Causeway Bay near Times Square. It's much bigger than the one in Soho, not quite as cozy and is popular with locals. Check the brunch club website for more details.

Too small, too far, too hot.

I was staying in Kowloon and thought from the reviews that this place might be good. I will never know. After taking the metro and then the escalators, I was ready for the "relaxing" atmosphere. Far from it. Not a seat in the air conditioned part of the restaurant and was offered a table outside or a 20 minute wait. When I asked if the table outside was under an umbrella, all I got was a chuckle. Was seated in the sun next to a fan with a prop-arc that could've moved a Cessna. Noisy and not as cool as you would expect. At the end of my continental breakfast (not too bad but not exactly a tour de force either) I was covered with sweat. Wait staff average (after I sent back the carrot juice I asked for and got my orange juice that is) but here's the real sticking point: why make the effort to go all the way to this (IMHO) average place and pass up scores of places that were available, comfortable and closer?

Hey Liza

Awesome website!!!
Just a note to all who are interested, we don't take reservations brunch time on weekends and public holidays here in Central.
But if you come before 11am or after 3pm you can usually get a table easily.

As always, we are very happy and work hard to ensure all you brunch clubbers out there have a fantastic brunch experience!!

Comments, feedback and suggestions always welcome.
