CULTURE CLUB GALLERY
The Culture Club is a unique venue on Elgin Street. Instead of being a typical SoHo restaurant or bar, it is a gallery, a live music venue, an Argentinean tango dance floor and a café / restaurant all in one. Walk through the white-foldout and doors you’ll find a fairly spacious setting.
One wall is painted white, the other is covered with a galvanized steel facade. On the wooden floors are a few tables and chairs of a similar color tone, which combine to create a warm, quirky and loft-like atmosphere. The yellowish lighting, books on the bookshelf and the musical instruments that sit casually to one side of the café add a homey feeling to the venue. There’s alot of wall space-perfect for the rotating exhibitions which are changed periodically.
The place is highly flexible in its setting with its mobile furniture and spacious area. While its a café during the day, it can be transformed to your own unplugged concert venue at night. You can talk to to the owner about setting up your own event and the staff can re-arrange the venue accordingly. On Sunday, you’d be surprised at the transformation as the cozy white café is converted into a red hot dance space with tango enthusiasts twirling around and burning up the dancefloor.
Culture in The Culture Club is not just limited to art, music and performance. The food itself is also a part of it. Though the menu is quite limited, the quality is not. The café offers several choices of coffee, light snacks and home-made desserts during the day and mostly Italian dishes for dinner.
